In Continuation of the Spirit of 1783

It's time to party like it's 1783 all over again, for it was September 3 of that year when the Treaty of Paris 1783 was signed, finalizing an effort that revved up in those pivotal days of 1776.

I always find meaning in noting occasions such as these since recalling our history gives us a better understanding of who we are.

As we look throughout US history, we see how each generation faced distinct challenges and overcame them through exercising strong character.  Furthermore, people kept drawing upon the spirit that brought the USA into existence through the movement of independence, by putting that spirit into action in the circumstances of their time.

The principles enshrined in those days in the 18th Century, especially in 1776, are bold.  And given that freedom is a gift of God granted to us by nature, it has great power.  We can count on freedom to persist if we do our part to uphold it so it is more greatly realized.

The existence of this country is a great gift.  May we be spurred on to make much of that gift and take on the responsibilities that accompany freedom so that it may be a force for good in our society.
